031The Least Of These

In an attempt to find new ways to incorporate the idea of being “missional” into my life, i’ve been trying to come up with some ideas about how to help connect the people in conVerge with our city. I just started reading Irresistable Revolution by Shane Claiborne, who is a prominant activist for relieving poverty in the world. Claiborne has some pretty crazy stories about coming together with homeless and sick people. He did some work in Calcutta with Mother Theresa (yes, the Mother Theresa). Anyways, as hippie as some of his work sounded, I am pretty encouraged by the mentality that he carried on his journeys. It pretty well revolved around what Jesus spoke about at the end of Matthew 25 concerning “the least of these.” I’m not finished with the book yet, so I could be wrong. But I am interested to see what else he has to say. In short, because i’m in my cubicle at 8:30 at night and still have work to do, I hope to find some new ways to commune with “the least of these”. I’m sure that’s what Jesus wants me to do because it’s in the Scriptures. I also know it’ll be hard too because I avoid people outside of my normal social group without realizing it. Not to mention, I’m so used to living around nice things (anything better than outright poverty is nice). I guess it’s something I’ll have to pray for. You should too.
More to come later.
